AirPrint is Here for iPod Touch
AirPrint is here for iPod Touch. I can't wait to try it!
Apple made available an update for iPod Touch today.Among the new features, AirPrint.
Before you do anything else (especially if you're like me, and you don't sync regularly), connect your device to your computer and Sync ..... then you can update your software without losing anything you may have added to your iPod Touch that has not been previously backed up on your computer.

Procrastination Pays Off
Procrastination pays off, well, at least, once in a while.
Daylight savings time ended early this morning. This is not such a big deal any more as most of my clocks reset themselves. The microwave and auto clock do not.
This morning I got into the car and looked at the clock. For the first time since last spring, I didn't have to add an hour to what I saw on the dash.

Election Season 2010
I don't know about you but the mute button on my television clicker has been getting a work-out lately. The other day, I thought if I heard another political ad I'd find myself out in the street screaming and tearing out my hair.
Today I got my very first push poll of this political season, and a robo call, at that. I hate robo calls with a passion but I hate push polls even more. Push polls are just down right dishonest, an effort to push the uninformed into voting in a particular way (often against their best interests). Is there no shame?!? Or is it just how we all play the game? Just a rhetorical question, of course.
And now, I find nasty, negative political ads on this blog. Of course, the joke is on them as no one actually ever reads this blog.
Update 10/27/2010 - Today I find positive ads here for Senator Ron Wyden, a true champion of the Pacific Northwest, and most particularly, of Oregon.

Safety - Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)

Just unpacked a box of brand new CFL's to more economically, and environmentally-correctly light my corner of the universe. What follows was found within the box of bulbs and labeled,

Proper Care And Disposal of CFLs-
CFL's are safe for your home and our environment with just a little care, but they do contain trace amounts of mercury. They should be handled and disposed of using a few simple precautions. Always screw and unscrew the bulb by its base (not the glass). If a CFL breaks, open the windows in the room for 15 minutes to air out the area. Use a piece of paper or cardboard to sweep up the broken pieces. Use a wet paper towel to wipe up any remaining glass fragments and place the broken pieces into a sealed plastic bag. CFLs should always be recycled. Never throw an intact CFL in the garbage. Visit energystar.gov for more information.

Updates Recommended for iPod Touch
It had been weeks, actually months since my last sync between laptop and iPod Touch.
Why?
I've found it more convenient to charge the iPod with a wall charger instead of plugging into the laptop. And while traveling, the laptop was left behind in favor of a smaller, lighter netbook.
Unfortunately, the iPod Touch can only be synced with one other device. So either the netbook or the laptop, not both. The laptop has been used consistently with the iPod while photographs have been downloaded to the netbook before being uploaded to a popular photo-sharing site.
This week, time was taken to sync the iPod and download the newest version of iTunes and Safari. What a difference! Don't wait as long as I did. Keep your devices up-to-date!

"Look Before You Leap!"
Usually, I err on the side of caution.
Unfortunately, I have not been cautious when accepting updates to my iPod Touch apps. One of my favorite apps, from Dictionary.com, is no longer working properly. The word of the day still pops up. However, clicking on VIEW no longer produces the result I have come to expect. The app does not open for me now.
When I looked for this app on the Apple App Store, I found a message saying that the update should not be accepted under certain circumstances. Clearly, going forward, I will always read about each update before adding to my iPod.
There is a new update from Dictionary.com. It reads, "Fixed bug that crashed app for devices on OS 3.0"
So wish me luck! I've missed my dictionary soooo much!

SwipeBids ....... Noooooooo!!!!!
A year's membership with 300 "free" bids will set you back $159. Another 300 bids will cost you another $150.
I cannot, with a clear conscience, recommend this auction site.
SwipeBids .....I couldn't help but wonder how this name was chosen. However, after using up nearly all of my "free" bids in a relatively short time, I think I know. This online auction site is in the business of selling bids. Anything interesting enough to bid on takes more than one of your bids each time you click to bid ..... camera or television set = five bids per click.
There are actually very few items up for auction. Most of the auction space is devoted to bidding on more bids. When there is a winning bid .... a note pops up with the winner's user name and a message saying something like ..... user saved 90% ....... of course, that 90% does not factor in the cost of the bids used to "win" the auction.
Each time a bidder clicks, time is added to the auction and the price of the item increases by pennies. The last bidder when the clock runs out "wins". There is no point in bidding when there are hours or even minutes on the clock. The action begins when there are 10 seconds (or less) remaining on the clock. Bidders clicking on the Bid button with 1 or 2 seconds on the clock keep the auction going.
Don't have the patience to wait for other bidders to give up? No problem. Auto Bid will bid for you until all your bids have been used up. Several bidders on Auto Bid can race to use up their bids (race to throw away their money). What a deal! What a deal for whoever came up with this money making scheme.
Save your money. This is NOT a good deal for the consumer!
